Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing


(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: $1500 college scholarship (district level) for young people through grade 12 in the United States and Canada, to CEGEP in Quebec and grade 13 in the Caribbean, who are recognized by their school as deaf or hard of hearing. Must be conducted through a local Optimist Club.

Optimist International Essay Contest


(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: $650 college scholarship is offered at the district level; $2,000-$5,000 scholarships are offered at the international level. Eligible students are under 19 as of December 31 of the current school year. Open to residents of the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. Must be conducted through a local Optimist Club. Award available to U.S. citizens.

Funds Avail.: Minimum no. of awards: 53. Maximum no. of awards: 56. Minimum award amount: $650. Maximum award amount: $5000. Optimist International Oratorical Contest


(Four Year College, Two Year College, University, Vocational/Occupational/Scholarship)

Purpose: $1,500 scholarship offered at the district level. Student shall not have attained the age of 16 years as of December 31st of current school year. No minimum age. Must be conducted through a local Optimist Club. Open to residents of the U.S., Canada or a Caribbean nation. Visit Web site at http://www.optimist.org for additional information. Qualif.: Applicant must be: age 16 or younger , full-time student. High school students not considered. Award available to U.S. citizens.
