One Assistant Position (PhD-student) in Mathematics, Université du Luxembourg

Brief Description
The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Mathematics Research Unit of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication. One assistant position (PhD-student) in mathematics (M/F) Temporary contract for two years, renewable once for additional two years, 40 hours/week, starting 1st October 2010 or later.

Area: Decision Mathematics (aggregation functions, functional equations…) Requirements: Master degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics of high quality, a degree in Applied Mathematics will also be accepted. A master thesis written in Analysis, Algebra, or Discrete Mathematics will be preferable. The position concerns only candidates who want to prepare a PhD thesis (before a contract can be established it is required that the successful candidate registers as a PhD student at the University of Luxembourg)

We expect :
dedication for doing mathematical research and willingness to integrate the existing team
willingness to prepare a PhD thesis
good knowledge of mathematical analysis and algebra
good written and oral English skills, some basic knowledge of French will be an advantage
readiness to develop some knowledge of French (if needed)
a limited teaching activity (1-3 hours/week)
